When your dreams come true

There's a saying that goes, 'be careful what you wish for.'

I have more than enough experiences that show that dreams actually do come true. This depends on how you formulate your dreams, how serious you are about what you dream about, how realistic you are about what you wish for.

When the business was good, I dreamt of retiring at 50, invest in the purchase an apartment in Manhatten and London, and possibly a property in the Italian countryside. Anything is possible.

Business not ony depended on my performance, in this case, but also on the market within which it operates, and when a crash suddenly appears, one will have to adjust, and this may mean a change in dreams, what you wish for, and the expectations you may have.

The will to make or have your dreams can start from a young age. Imagine when you wish for a present from Father Christmas; a lot will depend on how you sell your dream to your parents. As you get older, you start setting dreams which is realized with a commitment from your side.

(I remember when I started out working as an estate agent in Cape Town, I was told by my new boss that I will need to generate a commission of R5000 per month, and they will give me 3 months to monitor my commitment. I never earned so much money, did it, and never looked back!)

Every goal reached, every dream come true, will build confidence in your ability to succeed. It is vital to have realistic and achievable goals, and as you build confidence and become more successful, you can start aiming higher or build bigger dreams, and know that it will be possible to achieve these.

So it happened that I wanted to write a blog post - this is the one - where I am very deep in the doldrums, so far away from my target, but still confident of making this an outstanding year. It's now 8 days short of 5 months with me not having sold a single property, the longest period ever in my almost 30 years of doing this job.

Having now achieved this goal, made this unusual dream come true, I'm ready to take on the world, and look forward to writing, next time, on how the sales have started to pour in. (I haven't been on holiday; just continuously working during this time.)

We are living in extraordinary times. Shall we count our blessings for being in the best part of the world, here on the south point of Africa. Shall we be thankful for our health, without it, not much is possible.

Greetings from Cape Town on the hottest day of the year, so far. Tomorrow, they say, it will be even hotter, the last of the real summer are on us. Enjoy.
